Preparing for the Essential Liver & Gallbladder Flush

Since gallstones are one of the greatest health risks and are responsible for most of the major and minor illnesses people experience today, flushing your liver and gallbladder entirely of these stones is one of the most important things you can do to restore health and vitality to your life. This can be accomplished by doing the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush, even if you have had your gallbladder removed. However, for most individuals, including those who have maintained a fairly healthy lifestyle for several years, it requires preparation first. Therefore, it is recommended that you read and familiarize yourself with all of the necessary components involved with flushing your liver and gallbladder before you get started.

The information provided here gives you a simple overview of the preparations involved before starting the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush, goes into the specifics about the cleansing and detoxification routines that will be necessary afterward, and explains how many times you actually need to do the Flush. This will be most beneficial for those who have never been through a Liver Flush or for those who have used other Liver Flush protocols in the past with little success.

I. Why Is It Important to Prepare for a Liver/Gallbladder Flush?

Even though it is a relatively simple and painless procedure, “jumping-in” to do the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush without doing your homework first is very unwise and not recommended. There are many Liver Flush protocols that you find in books or on the internet that strictly focus on preparing you to flush gallstones from the liver. Although this is vitally important, there are a few important steps that are all too often overlooked. As a result, most people who decide to dive right into their first liver/gallbladder flush typically experience disappointing results and/or unnecessary complications. We feel– without a doubt– that flushing the liver entirely of gallstones will reverse the cause of many health conditions and improve your health tremendously, but it must be done correctly! So, before we go into the preliminary steps before you start your first Flush, we’ll give you an overview of the actual Flush itself.

II. What is the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush?

The Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush is a simple procedure that painlessly and safely eliminates not only gallstones in the gallbladder, but also and most importantly, the thousands of gallstones in the liver. It involves 6 days of preparation where you will be drinking a malic acid drink in conjunction with taking selected nutrients to “prepare” your liver and gallbladder for flushing gallstones. The preparation also involves some gentle cleansing that will be easy to incorporate into your daily routine. The actual “Flush” starts on the sixth day of preparation and extends into the next day up until late afternoon/early evening. It is recommended to reserve this part of the Flush for the weekend where you can avoid distractions and allow yourself adequate time to rest and relax.

Note: Just to make sure you’re on track, the 6 day preparation required before each Flush is designed to prepare your Liver to flush stones and is not the same preparation that we will be discussing here. Those details are explained in The Essential Liver & Gallbladder instructions. What we discuss here are the preliminary preparations and post detoxification that most Liver Flush protocols do not include.

III. What If I Don’t Have A Gallbladder?

Having had your gallbladder surgically removed is even more of an indication that you will benefit from the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush. Since the majority of gallstones actually form in the liver (often referred to as “bilestones”) and not in the gallbladder, it is highly probable that you have more gallstones in your liver than the average person with a functional gallbladder. Therefore, your risk of developing chronic health conditions down the road is very likely. Fortunately, many people without gallbladders have successfully removed thousands of gallstones from their liver and have gone on to experience wonderful improvements to their overall health. The steps laid out in this cleanse will adequately prepare you to successfully flush the liver entirely of these stones.

IV.  Keep Flushing Your Liver and Gallbladder Until ALL Gallstones Have Been Removed!

The common belief with most Liver Flush protocols is that you only have to do it once a year. On the contrary, we find this to be a misguided practice. You see, the average person typically has several thousand gallstones congesting the bile ducts of their liver, and more and more are developing calcified stones in their gallbladders. One or even a few Liver/Gallbladder Flushes will not be enough to completely remove all of these stones. For most individuals it may take approximately 20 Flushes or more. For severe cases it may take up to 30 or more, depending on lifestyle and past dietary habits. Do not let this deter you though. Once you get into a routine you begin looking forward to your liver/gallbladder flushes. The progress you see each time you release hundreds of stones is VERY MOTIVATING! Plus, the increased energy and relief of other symptoms will keep you coming back. We feel the best approach is to do the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush every 6-8 weeks until you have had 2 consecutive Flushes with no gallstones.

Doing another Flush sooner than 6 weeks may not be enough time to allow your liver to recover, and waiting longer than 8 weeks allows too much time to pass. What’s important to remember is that once you have started the process of cleansing your liver, you should keep doing it until you have removed all of the stones. The reason for this is simple. Once you have cleared stones from the front of the liver, older stones will move forward and may potentially combine to create larger stones. Also, as the stones shift inside the biliary tract they may create a blockage that didn’t exist before, and bile flow may become even less. This could possibly override the new found relief you experience after each flush, as old symptoms may return or amplify. This is just an indication that you have more stones to release. Therefore the 6-8 week time frame is just enough time to allow you to go back and continue the work without experiencing continued discomfort. Therefore, if you choose to commit yourself to cleansing your liver entirely, you will understand why the precautions discussed next are vitally important.

V.  How Your Detox Organs Work Together

The liver, gallbladder, kidneys and intestines all work together to detoxify the body and must be treated as one unit before, during, and after a Liver Flush. When toxins are expelled from the liver and gallbladder they are immediately released into the system. Efficient removal of this waste, via the kidneys and the colon must occur to ensure that toxins are not reabsorbed and circulated throughout the body. Therefore, cleansing these major detox organs is a critical component both in preparation for the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush as well as afterward. Since they play a significant role in the return of homeostasis to the body, it does not make much sense to cleanse and detox one organ without addressing all of them.

These are the important considerations to address both before and after the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush:

  • Cleansing the kidneys of accumulated stones, sand, and grease before your first Flush.
  • Clearing accumulated waste matter from the large intestine before your first Flush.
  • Decongesting the liver and gallbladder of stagnant bile before your first Flush.
  • Cleansing the large intestine after every Flush. (Ongoing)
  • Supporting and cleansing the kidneys after every Flush. (Ongoing)
  • Supporting liver and gallbladder after every Flush. (Ongoing)

Although this may sound daunting, the cleansing protocols required before, during, and after the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush are actually very simple and can be easily integrated into your lifestyle. Furthermore, these cleansing procedures are actually the “stepping-stones” towards great health.  Relieving the liver, kidneys, and intestines from years of stagnant waste overtime, will allow your body to regain normal function and return to a balanced state of homeostasis. The cells will begin to receive oxygen and vital nutrients that they were so deprived of for many years. This will set the preconditions for the body to heal itself, and in time you will undoubtedly notice many aches, pains, and other symptoms of “dis-ease” dissipating and disappearing altogether.

VI.  Recommendations Before Starting Your First Liver/Gallbladder Flush

1.  Kidney Cleanse
2.  Intestinal Cleanse
3.  “Decongest” the liver and gallbladder
4.  Rehydrate

1.  Cleansing the Kidneys – The kidneys are extremely delicate, blood-filtering organs that play a vital role in maintaining homeostasis in the body. Unfortunately though, these highly sensitive organs are prone to congestion very easily.  The latest statistic reveals that nearly 30 million Americans suffer from chronic kidney disease, and millions more go on to experience some form of kidney disease or kidney related diseases without any noticeable symptoms.

If doctors better understood the function of the liver and its intimate connection with the kidneys, the origin and symptoms of chronic kidney disease wouldn’t be such a mystery.  In actuality, one of the main causes of chronic kidney disease is gallstones in the liver. When the liver is choked with gallstones it cannot adequately detoxify the blood and neutralize acid byproducts from a diet that consists mainly of processed foods and animal protein. This acidic waste matter continues its circulation through the bloodstream and is sent to the kidneys to be filtered out of the body. Furthermore, gallstones prevent adequate bile production which is necessary for proper digestion.  If enough bile is not present, undigested food (even organic, wholesome food) ferments and putrefies in the intestines, spilling even more toxic waste matter into the bloodstream. Overtime, the waste matter generated from poor digestion and inadequate detoxification from the liver thickens the blood and severely weakens the filtering mechanisms of the kidneys. Subsequently, since the kidneys cannot efficiently filter the blood, these acid byproducts are precipitated in the urine and formed into kidney stones.  Kidney Stones, which can cause severe damage to the kidneys, are another cause of chronic kidney disease.

Unfortunately, the same story with gallstones applies to kidney stones- most people are not aware that they have them. It is only when these stones have become large enough to cause pain and irritation that they are detected by x-rays, ultrasound and other diagnostic tools. The most common causes of kidney congestion (kidney stones) besides gallstones, are dehydration, animal protein, dairy, refined foods, food additives and colorants, caffeine and other stimulants, soft drinks, refined sugar, foods high in oxalates such as chocolate and commercial black tea, metal fillings, weak digestion, constipation, an irregular lifestyle, stress, lack of sleep, and frequent consumption of alcohol, recreational drugs, and medication just to name a few.  If you were raised on the Standard American Diet it is highly likely that you have developed kidney stones or sludge in the kidneys, ureters, and/or bladder without any noticeable symptoms. Even if you have eaten a relatively clean diet for many years, you may still have a lifetime worth of congestion in the kidneys. Therefore, following through with a Kidney Cleanse is a top priority before starting the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush.

When the kidneys are cleared of sludge, grease, and stones they will be able to efficiently filter the blood which in turn, allows the body to process and safely excrete the influx of new toxins that are released after a Liver/Gallbladder Flush.  If the kidneys are not cleansed before a Liver Flush however, further congestion may occur and kidney function may weaken even more.  The Kidney Cleanse requires 25-30 days to complete and can easily be incorporated into your daily routine.  If you have been diagnosed with kidney problems, have a history of kidney stones, bladder/urinary infections, and/or prostate issues, or experience chronic swelling and water retention, you may want to consider staying on the Kidney Cleanse for 6-8 weeks before starting the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush. See Kidney Cleanse.

2.  Cleansing the Intestines – Intestinal cleansing before your first Liver/Gallbladder Flush is very important and often overlooked in other Liver Flush protocols. This is unfortunate since bowel cleansing is a fundamental aspect of a successful Liver/Gallbladder Flush. Failure to thoroughly cleanse the bowels before flushing the liver is one of the reasons why people experience complications. Having constipation, bowel obstruction, or a sluggish colon at the time of the Liver Flush may prevent the Flush from actually working.  If the oil in the Flush drink cannot move efficiently through the GI tract, bile secretions will not be adequate and the gallbladder and liver may barely contract during the Flush. Your results will be very disappointing. Also, a clean colon helps to avoid or minimize any discomfort or nausea that may arise during the actual Liver Flush, because it will prevent back-flushing of the oil mixture or waste products from the intestinal tract into the stomach.  Lastly, if the colon has been cleared of accumulated wastes beforehand, the gallstones that are released during the Flush will be able to travel through the colon much easier.

Important Note: Having “regular” bowel movements doesn’t necessarily indicate that your colon is not obstructed.  Most, if not all individuals who do not cleanse their bowels regularly suffer from some form of bowel obstruction even though there may be no apparent signs.

Before starting the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush it is STRONGLY recommended to follow through with the Intestinal Cleanse for a minimum of 2-4 weeks. This is a gentle cleanse that is designed to remove accumulated wastes over a period of time. How Does This Cleanse Differ From Other Popular Cleanses? Although there are many cleanses on the market today that effectively cleanse the intestinal tract, most of them do not address the necessity to repair and restore the GI tract. Many have a “Roto Rooter” type effect, yet seem to have little if any lasting result. Individuals often find themselves dependent on these products, which in time may cause more disruption to intestinal function. What good does it do to cleanse the colon without repairing the necessary components that ensure proper nutrient absorption and elimination? Most individuals raised on the Standard American Diet have sustained considerable damage to their intestinal lining even though they may not be experiencing related “symptoms.” For many, it will be just a matter of time before the effects of improper digestion, absorption, and elimination will appear as a disease or chronic illness. Focusing on correcting the cause of constipation while simultaneously repairing the intestinal lining will provide lasting beneficial effects. Once bowel movements begin increasing to 2 to 3 times a day, you know this cleanse has been effective. For some individuals this may take up to a year or more depending on how much one adjusts diet and lifestyle. Let’s Get Started! When starting on an intestinal cleanse there are several factors to consider. First and foremost is the clearing of waste debris, including impacted fecal matter. (Even if you are “regular” you still have years of accumulated toxins in the colon.) Second, is repairing the intestinal lining, and third is restoring normal peristalsis to the colon. The combination of products listed below will work to do all three. This is a gentle cleanse designed to work over a period of time. After several weeks, don’t be surprised if you find loose white strings, puss, and dark, hardened matter in your stools. One month is enough time to do a great deal of cleansing, yet you may need to repeat this cleanse several times over a period of 2 to 3 years to clear away years of encrusted, hardened waste. In time, you will be able to decide when and how much cleansing is necessary. The good news is that this cleanse can be used for maintenance and long term use (just reduce Cleanse Blend to ½ teaspoon daily.) The nutrients provided in this program support the elimation process and produce virtually no detox response. Products Included in the Intestinal Cleanse Kit: I. Cleanse Blend – A clinically-tested, whole body cleansing formula. It contains a complete, synergistic blend of grade 10, carefully harvested herbs from South America. Its unique carrier base, grade 10 psyllium husk powder, provides a gentle, soluble fiber that adds soft, almost fluffy bulk to stools. This helps clean out toxic colon pockets and helps move foul, stagnant waste matter out of the colon. In addition, its scrubbing action can help trap and pull out many years of toxic debris. II. Intesticidin ND – Provides gastrointestinal support for stomach, intestines, liver and digestion. III. Purchase Intestinal Cleanse Kit Additional Support Products Although not required for the Intestinal Cleanse, we have a number of products that will enhance your cleansing efforts and can be used in conjunction with the Intestinal Cleanse. Take the recommended doses mentioned below for the duration of the Intestinal Cleanse. Parastat – In addition to supporting a healthy gastrointestinal tract and immune system, research shows that the herb Holarrhena antidysenterica in Parastat also helps repair the intestinal lining, increase the tone of the intestines, improve digestive power and cleanse the gastrointestinal tract. Take 4 Vcaps with each meal. (This is a great formula to add to Coffee Enemas.) Adrenal Complex – Nourishes and supports Adrenal function which in turn supports digestion. Adrenal Complex may also help to alleviate conditions that cause constipation. Take 3 Vcaps in the morning and 3 Vcaps in the afternoon. Do not take in the evening. Kidney Complex– Certain bacteria, such as E. coli, decompose fat and protein from your diet, releasing foul-smelling breakdown products in your intestines. These putrid chemicals, such as ammonia, indoles, skatoles, triptamine, etc. can be absorbed through the bowel lining into your blood. The herbs in Kidney Complex work to clean and purify the blood of these toxic byproducts. These herbs are effective in clearing the foul smell in your stools. This formula also strengthens kidney function. Since the kidneys supply the raw power to all of the body’s organs, it is essential to supply these vital organs with nutritional support. Take 3 Vcaps in the morning. Galactan – Fiber rich nutrition from the arabinogalactan plant. Promotes healthy, complete bowel eliminations and gastrointestinal health. Supports beneficial GI micro flora. One critical component of this amazing fiber is that it will sweep away toxins as they are released from the liver and intestines. Galactan is recommended to use daily even if you are not doing a colon cleanse. The benefits received from this healing fiber are a wonderful addition to any nutritional program. Take 2 tbsp. twice a day in liquid. You may combine it with Aloe. Glutamine – Helps strengthen and repair intestinal lining. This is effective when taken long term. Take 3 Vcaps three times a day. Directions For the Intestinal Cleanse The regimen below is to be followed every day for a minimum of 3-4 weeks, although it can be used long term. The cleansing action is gentle and requires daily use in order to maximize results. Since the Cleanse Blend must gain momentum in order to effectively peel away encrusted, toxic layers, it is not recommended to skip days; otherwise your results will be limited. Note: The recommended doses listed on the product labels are for basic use. Since this is an intensive cleanse, the doses are higher than recommended on the bottle. Arising – First thing in the morning drink a 3 oz. glass of room temperature, purified water with the juice of 1 lemon and ¼ teaspoon of salt. This will stimulate gallbladder function and the gastrocolic reflex to induce bowel elimination. It is important to move your bowels in the morning before you start off on your day. If you do not have a bowel movement first thing, don’t worry. Consistent practice of this, in time, will condition your bowels to move within 1 hour of waking. Drink another 4-6 oz. glass of water immediately following the lemon drink. Cleansing Drink – Wait at least 15 minutes after the lemon drink and ½ hour before breakfast to take the cleanse drink. Making the Cleanse Drink: Using a nonmetallic spoon, stir 1 tbsp. of Cleanse Blend in 6 oz. of purified water. Stir briskly and drink right away. If you wait too long the Cleanse Blend will begin to gel making it difficult to go down. You may need to add some more water half way through the drink. Take another glass of water shortly after the cleanse drink to ensure the fiber moves through the GI tract. Note: If your stools become runny, cut back the amount to ½ teaspoon again, and gradually increase the dose. In time, your bowels will normalize and stools will become soft and fluffy. Breakfast – Wait a minimum of ½ hour after cleanse drink. If you are taking supplements, take them before lunch and dinner. Intesticidin ND – Before bed mix 2 tsp. of Intesticidin in 2 oz. of water; sip and swish slowly. Make sure you do not eat at least 3 hours before bed. Water – It is important that you take in a minimum of 8 – 10 large glasses of water every day. Generally, half of your weight in ounces is enough. If you exercise or live a fast-paced lifestyle you will need to drink more. If you do not drink enough water throughout the day you may begin to experience constipation. What should I expect? The results usually differ among individuals. Most will occasionally have gas or bloating. This is caused by the “digging” effect of the herbs as they are clearing pockets of old decaying matter and sweeping the intestines. Some will experience loose stools from time to time, while others may experience constipation. You may swing back and forth with constipation at first. Typically, after 1-2 days of decreased bowel movements, a massive release will occur. If you experience constipation for a while do not let this deter you. (Suggestions for how to deal with constipation are provdided at the end of this section.) As the toxins are neutralized, the bowels will normalize and stools will become soft and fluffy. If instructions are followed and plenty of water is taken, regular, substantial bowel movements will occur several times a day. In general, this cleanse is gentle with little or no harsh effects. What you’ll see in the toilet is a different story! Who knows? Most of the time, you should notice large bulky stool. If the shape is bent, like an elbow and the texture is ridged, this is a good sign. That’s the shape of your intestines which means you’re peeling off layers! Sometimes you’ll notice mucous and little strings for a few days, then all of a sudden black hardened matter. All of this is an indication that the cleansing is doing its job. Other Considerations Time and consistency Making the commitment to cleanse your body is one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself. Yet, understanding that it requires time, consistency and patience is very important. It would not be fair to you to invest in this program without allowing adequate time to follow through with the recommended regimen. Rushing around first thing in the morning may cause undue stress and slow down bowel function. Try to allow yourself at least two hours before leaving for work. This way, there will be ample time to spread out the regimen and give the cleansing agents time to do their job. It will also leave enough time to plan and prepare nutritious food for the day which will enhance the effects of this cleanse tremendously. What If I Begin to Experience Constipation? There is a possibility for some individuals to develop constipation when first starting on this cleanse. The Cleanse Blend is a bulky fiber and may clog in the colon when certain conditions are present. These conditions include inadequate hydration, a poor diet, lack of sleep, and overly stimulating activities, all of which slow down peristalsis. Large quantities of water are necessary for the Cleanse Blend to move through the colon. Moreover, it is important to take in sufficient amounts of vegetables and whole grains daily. Meat, dairy, and processed foods that have been stripped of fiber will have difficulty binding with the Cleanse Blend and transit time through the bowels may slow down considerably. Also, many people with impaired digestion and constipation are not aware that stress and over stimulation are their main culprits. Excessive worrying, negativity, and confrontation are sources of over stimulation too. Decrease/Avoid TV and turn off the news station as frequently as possible. In addition, strive for a 10 p.m. bedtime and get at least 8 hours of sleep. All of the above factors inhibit perstalsis, so a “Colon Corrective” may need to be included. The following few suggestions are products or items that help to correct peristalsis. The rest are more suggestions to maximize your results. Feel free to follow any, or a combination of the recommendations below: Take Aloe Drink (2 tbsp.) up to 6 times a day. Take 1-3 tsp. of castor oil with 1 cup of warm water before bed. In cases of severe constipation, take a few teaspoons of castor oil (on an empty stomach) with warm water 3 times throughout the day. Flax Seed Tea: Rinse Flax Seeds. Heat ½ cup purified water for 1 to 2 min (should be very warm), add 1 tbsp of Flax Seeds. Let soak in warm water for 15 minutes, strain and discard seeds. Drink only the liquid (it will be fairly slimy). Try this 2 or 3 times a day. The lignans from the flax work as a broom sweeping the intestines. Stay hydrated – adequate hydration cannot be overemphasized. It is one of the major causes of poor intestinal health. Avoid caffeine at all costs! For every cup of coffee consumed, you lose approximately 24 oz. of water. This is extremely dehydrating and will counteract your cleansing efforts and increase constipation. Caffeine also contributes to adrenal fatigue which weakens digestion and slows peristalsis in the colon. Avoid alcohol (also dehydrating.) Increase vegetables (raw and gently cooked) in your diet and avoid processed, sugary foods. This includes chips, crackers, cereal, bread, etc. Do not microwave your food. Minimize/avoid meat and dairy, especially in the evening when digestion is at its weakest. Avoid eating heavy meals in the evening, and eat before 7 pm. Digestion is considerably weaker in the evening. Meals that are heavy and eaten too late will not digest properly. This undigested food will not move through the intestines efficiently. Add ½ to 1 teaspoon of Pink Salt to your diet everyday. Salt nourishes the adrenals and helps keep the body hydrated. Watch your stress. Remember that stress causes adrenal fatigue which directly impacts bowel function. Are you creating stress by constant worry? How are you dealing with confrontation? Are you getting adequate sleep? Coffee Enemas or warm water enemas will stimulate the bowels to move, especially in the late afternoon or evenings after a meal. Salt Flush first thing in the morning if bowel movements were minimal the day before. Move Your Bowels Everyday! In order to set the preconditions for the body to heal itself, it is imperative that the bowels are cleared daily. This means that each meal consumed the day before is completely eliminated the next day. So, ideally you should have at least 3 full bowel eliminations daily. Yet for most, this will take time to occur naturally, especially if there is a history of constipation. Although this cleanse is very powerful and will help the bowels to move more frequently, it won’t always guarantee full bowel eliminations. Repair to intestinal function takes time, and assistance may be necessary in order to completely eliminate the bowels on a daily basis. In time, after considerable cleansing of the intestines and completely removing gallstones from the liver, as well as a whole food’s diet and a balanced lifestyle, intestinal function will normalize and bowel eliminations will be complete. For now, the recommendations discussed next will be helpful with this process. Enemas and salt flushes are the most preferred methods. Here are more details to explain the benefits: Salt Flush Salt Flushes are very helpful for individuals with stubborn constipation. Even if you are not experiencing constipation, it is beneficial to do a salt flush a few times while on the Intestinal Cleanse, or any time for that matter. Not only does a Salt Flush cleanse the entire colon, it cleanses the entire alimentary canal from mouth to anus. This will help to repair the intestinal lining, improve digestion, and assist with removing toxic debris stimulated from the Cleanse Blend. Salt Flush Instructions. Enemas For centuries, enemas were a routine home remedy. Then, with the advent of Western Medicine, the customary use of enemas died out. Today unfortunately, the thought of taking a daily enema seems so out of the ordinary, so taboo. Yet the benefits have not changed, and people are now going back to their roots in search of methods to help restore and regain health. Until normal bowel function is restored, it is recommended to take an enema as often as possible. Dr. Bernard Jensen who wrote, “Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management” recommended an enema everyday for at least a year until substantial cleansing and repair had occurred within the bowels. Our number one recommendation is the Coffee Enema. Although this enema is more for liver cleansing, it also neutralizes and moves toxins from the bowels, which is a great two-for-one deal. Regular, long-term use of coffee enemas provides tremendous support for intestinal detoxification. They also strengthen muscle tone in the colon and greatly improve eliminative function. We have found them to be a powerful tool for the recovery of chronic illness and the maintenance of overall health and well being. If you are not able to do Coffee Enemas, warm water enemas with a teaspoon of Castor Oil are effective too. Colon Hydrotherapy It is also recommended to take a colonic from time to time while on the Intestinal Cleanse. This will stimulate further release of impacted fecal matter and help to reshape, hydrate and tone the walls of the colon. This will especially benefit those who may have a collapsed transverse colon, diverticula, strictures and pockets. While the Cleanse Blend gently “scrubs” the walls of the colon, the colonic will loosen even more impacted matter and remove it entirely from the colon. It is always amazing to see how much waste comes out during a colonic- even when the bowels move regularly. This is mainly due to accumulated fecal matter that has collected in pockets that were formed in the colon over many years. This cleanse, in conjunction with Colon Hydrotherapy will help to repair and restore bowel function considerably. Go to http://www.i-act.org/ or http://www.colonic.net/directory.asp for a referral list of US and International Colon Therapists. The Power of Castor Packs Castor packs are a wonderful tool to use in many detox regimes- especially intestinal cleansing. A clogged colon contains toxic byproducts that create lymphatic congestion in and around the Cisterna Chyli, located in front of the second lumbar vertebra- about 2 inches below the 12th rib and near your belly button. This is the point in the lymphatic system where the major detox organs dump their waste; it is also a point of major congestion. Lymphatic blockage in this central region of the body is responsible for disease and imbalance in the entire body. Using a castor pack over the abdomen promotes lymphatic drainage of the Cisterna Chyli which, over time will have a profound effect on your entire health. Using the packs also help to improve bowel function, and eliminate stored toxins in the intestines. Castor packs over the liver and kidneys also improve lymphatic drainage and intestinal function. See Castor Pack Instructions for more information.”>See Intestinal Cleanse.

If you choose to skip the Intestinal Cleanse, make it a point to do some type of colon cleansing prior to each Flush, especially during the 6 day preparation. Regular Salt Flushes work well too. See Salt Flush.

3. Decongesting the Liver and Gallbladder Using Coffee Enemas – Over the years as gallstones clog the liver and gallbladder, bile thickens and becomes trapped within the bile ducts. Prolonged suffocation caused by this stagnant bile damages liver cells and cuts down circulation within the liver and gallbladder. Furthermore, as these gallstones grow in size they become very dense and actually distort the structural framework of the liver. Circulation weakens even more and decreases the liver’s ability to detoxify the blood. If these conditions are severe enough at the time of the Flush, the malic acid taken during the six day preparation may have difficulty getting in to soften the stones. As a result, the gallstones will most likely remain impacted in the bile ducts, making it difficult for them to release. (This is typically why some people do not see very many stones after their first Flush. In many individuals, it may take up to 2 or 3 liver flushes before significant amounts of stones are released. Yet your odds of expelling more gallstones is much greater if you follow the recommendations discussed in this section.)  Furthermore, if the liver and gallbladder are severely congested with stagnant bile, the sudden surge of oil from the Flush drink may cause the bile and the oil to flood into the stomach creating a feeling of nausea. This is a situation that typically deters people from doing a Liver Flush, and we don’t want that to happen.

“Decongesting” the liver and gallbladder of toxic bile before starting the six day preparation will help to circumvent these situations to create a smoother, more successful Flush. Removing some of this stagnant bile opens the pathways in the liver and facilitates the malic acid to do its job more effectively and greatly minimizes the likelihood for nausea and discomfort. This will especially benefit those who have had their gallbladders removed, because bile tends to collect and stagnate in the liver even more.

Coffee Enemas are very effective at clearing stagnant bile from the liver and gallbladder which makes them an integral part of the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush.  Not only do they “decongest” the liver they also help to detoxify the blood and cleanse the lower intestines. The caffeine in the coffee dilates the bile ducts which facilitates excretion of toxic bile from the liver and initiates the enzyme system responsible for removing free radicals.  This will greatly enhance your Liver Flush experience.  For most individuals, especially if they have not done many Coffee Enemas, it will require taking a series of coffee enemas before starting the six day preparation in order to remove stagnant bile from the liver’s bile ducts.

Through experience, we have found that a minimum of 3 enemas per week for a period of one month before starting the six day prep will adequately prepare the liver and gallbladder for a more efficient release of gallstones. You may do 4 enemas in three weeks or 6 enemas in two weeks prior to the six day preparation if you choose.  Just make sure to get in at least 12 enemas right before starting your first Flush. The six day preparation will always require you to do Coffee Enemas.  Specific details are provided in the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush instructions. See Coffee Enema Instructions.

Coffee Enema

4. Hydration – Chronic dehydration is a main contributor to both gallstone and kidney stone formation.  If the liver is dehydrated it cannot produce sufficient bile necessary for digestion, and if the kidneys are dehydrated they cannot properly maintain fluid and electrolyte balance, regulate blood pressure, and adequately filter the blood. Chronic dehydration of these two organs by themselves is enough to cause severe imbalances within the body.  Subsequently, if you are dehydrated while performing any cleansing routine, your cells will not be able to adequately clear accumulated toxins. Instead of removing wastes, the cells and organs will accumulate more, and your efforts will be disappointing.

If you are chronically ill, recuperating from an illness, or do not drink sufficient amounts of water, it is not recommended to follow through with The Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush until you have taken the steps to restore adequate hydration. Start by increasing one cup of water more per day than you usually drink until you are drinking at least half your weight in ounces.  If you are active and exercise regularly you will want to increase your water intake even more. Drinking alcohol and caffeine (especially coffee) is severely dehydrating for the body. For instance, for every cup of coffee you drink, your body loses approximately 3 cups of water. Drinking large amounts of caffeine and alcohol during the six day preparation will greatly minimize your results.

VII. Continual Support and Detoxification is Necessary Until All Gallstones Have Been Removed

When the liver is congested with gallstones, it cannot adequately perform the 500 plus functions that it is required to do in order for the body to maintain homeostasis. And as long as the liver is unable to sufficiently produce bile and detoxify the blood, the liver itself, along with the kidneys and intestines are put under a lot of strain. Therefore, it is wise to continue supporting these main detox organs through on-going cleansing until all gallstones have been removed.  Then, routine cleansing and detoxification should be done every 3-4 months to ensure that the kidneys, liver, and colon do not become congested.

VIII.  Recommendations for After Your First Flush and In Between Each Flush

1.    Kidney support and routine Kidney Cleanse.
2.    Keep your colon clean!
3.    Continue liver support with routine Coffee Enemas and Liver Nutrients
4.    Stay hydrated!!!

1. Ongoing Kidney Cleansing and Support

Continual care for the kidneys after each Liver/Gallbladder Flush is very important. This is why you will be instructed to use a castor pack over the kidneys on Day 7. The castor pack will induce lymphatic circulation in and around the kidneys for swift removal of toxins immediately after the Flush.  Details for the castor pack are provided later in this section.

Furthermore, since the kidneys are the most delicate organs in the body, they are prone to congestion, especially if the liver still has gallstones remaining. Until the liver has been cleared entirely of gallstones, added support and ongoing cleansing of the kidneys will be essential. It is our recommendation to do a Kidney Cleanse after every 3 to 4 Liver Flushes. You may modify the cleanse by doing it for a week or so, instead of the 3-4 weeks.

2. Keep Your Intestines Clean!

Cleansing the colon a few days after the Essential Liver/Gallbladder flush is imperative! It is not uncommon after a Liver Flush for gallstones to lodge in the colon, or to release from the liver and gallbladder a day or two after the Flush.  These stones, if not removed from the colon may become a source of irritation.  Therefore, it is recommended to follow through with cleansing the colon within 1-3 days after the Flush.  A colonic is the preferred method.  More details will be explained in the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush Instructions.

Subsequently, in between each Liver Flush ongoing colon cleansing and bowel support will be necessary until all gallstones have been removed from the liver and gallbladder. Once the liver is stone-free, bile secretions will normalize and digestion will improve dramatically. In time, provided that you eat a whole foods diet and remain adequately hydrated, you should begin experiencing complete bowel evacuations on a daily basis. Meaning all food consumed will be properly digested and evacuated within 24 hours. In the meantime, it is recommended to continue with regular colon cleansing. Occasional colonics, regular Salt Flushes, enemas, and of course the Intestinal Cleanse are very good options.

Special Reminder: Too often this is where individuals “fall off the wagon.”  It is important to stay on course here.  Cleansing the colon on a regular basis is a fundamental aspect of great health. A toxic colon equals a toxic body. If these recommendations seem too much, or you perceive that you have too little time to do them, take it slow and ease your way through. In time, cleansing your colon will become so familiar that it will be as regular as brushing your teeth…

3. Continue Liver Support with Coffee Enemas

With each and every Liver Flush, you are paving the way for a cleaner, healthier liver.  However, it is going to take time for the liver to fully repair and regain optimal function.  In the meantime, it would be wise to continue supporting the liver through routine Coffee Enemas. They will help to clear bile that will continually stagnate in the liver until all gallstones are removed. They will also assist in the detoxification of the blood and the removal of free radicals, which the liver will not be able to do efficiently if gallstones are present. We recommend a Coffee Enema at least 1-3 times a week in between each Liver Flush. The best time to take a Coffee Enema is after a meal because of the bile stimulation. It will also elicit a bowel movement which is very good to do after a meal. For those with weak digestion it is recommended to take the enema after dinner. This will help with evening digestion which is weaker at night, and will also cleanse the bowels before bed time allowing for more efficient liver detoxification while you sleep. If you have cancer or suffer from a chronic illness you may want to consider more intensive use of the coffee enemas.

4.  Continue Liver Support by Taking Liver Herbs

As previously mentioned it will take time for your liver to regain optimal function. Taking herbs that specifically support the liver will optimize your overall liver function in between each flush. This is a powerful way to speed up the regeneration process and prevent toxic accumulation. We have several products that provide support for the liver, but the two most effective are Liver-ND and Reishi. These two products assist with healthy bile flow, phase I and phase II liver detoxification, fat digestion, protein synthesis, cell rejuvenation and more. If you have ongoing, persistent issues with your gallbladder, you may want to also include Gallbladder-ND.

5. Stay Hydrated!!!

Dehydration is a leading cause of disease and poor health. It is absolutely imperative that you drink sufficient amounts of water EVERY DAY! It is also important to recognize habits in your lifestyle that lead to dehydration. Even if you drink “plenty” of water, if you engage in over stimulating, energy depleting activities you may still not be able to stay adequately hydrated. A person who does not exercise and lives a moderately paced lifestyle should drink a minimum of half their weight in ounces of water every day. If you exercise, work long hours, smoke cigarettes, eat processed foods, drink alcohol, etc. it will require you to drink much more water to ensure adequate hydration.

6. Castor Packs

Although castor packs are not required, except for the day after the Liver Flush, we strongly recommend that you do them before and after each Flush if time permits. Castor Packing the liver, intestines (abdomen), and kidneys once a week for several weeks can provide long lasting effects. The castor packs promote lymphatic circulation which is necessary for swift removal of internally released toxins after the Liver Flush. See Castor Oil Pack Instructions.

7. Medi Blast (Foot Soak)

A Medi Blast is a gentle, yet deeply purifying foot bath or whole-body bath that directly pulls released toxins from pathways in the whole body. A Medi Blast prevents other areas of the body from “jamming” when toxins are released after detoxification sessions, especially for sensitive people, those that have been chronically ill, or who have had a lot of dental work or metal fillings. Medi Blasts can be effective in preparing the body for a major detox, such as the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush.  They are also helpful in eliminating toxins after the Flush. If you have a chronic illness or a weakened condition, taking several baths before and after each Flush will provide added support for detoxification. See Medi Blast Instructions.

  • Continue bowel support by routine colon cleansing.
  • Continue coffee enemas.
  • Continue taking liver herbs for support.
  • Stay Hydrated.
  • Continue detoxification support with routine Medi Blasts and Castor Packs.
  • Cleanse the kidneys every 3 to 4 Liver Flushes.

X. The Best Time to Do a Liver/Gallbladder Flush

Although most any time is beneficial for a Liver/Gallbladder Flush, the most preferred time is on the day of the New Moon. At this time the body is most equipped to purify itself from accumulated toxins. A few days prior to, and on the day of the Full Moon is not preferred for Liver/Gallbladder Flushing. This is a time when the moon exhibits strong influences (often strange) over the planet and its life forms. Holding fluids in the body is especially prevalent at this time and may minimize your results during the Essential Liver/Gallbladder Flush.

XI. What to Do After You Have Completely Flushed all Gallstones From Your Liver

Once your liver has been cleared entirely of gallstones, it is recommended to follow through with a Liver Flush twice a year. The modern lifestyle is full of stressors, and toxins are literally everywhere!  Many individuals, especially if their diet still contains processed foods, and/or they continue to engage in energy depleting activities, work long hours, fail to stay hydrated, and get adequate rest will quickly accumulate gallstones. Cleansing this vital organ regularly is one of the most important things you can do to maintain a healthy, disease-free life.
